Whenever planning for Umrah, the first thing that comes to our minds is the best and most affordable duration. A good duration makes the Umrah experience much better. As there are twelve months in a year, finding an affordable month can be a bit difficult. Is every month good for Umrah? We are going to explore the answer to this.
Umrah is Islam’s significant pilgrimage after Hajj. Muslims perform Umrah in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. There is no time or date restriction (except the Hajj days); you can perform at any time of the year. Some Muslims prefer to perform during Ramadan, and some like to travel for Umrah in December. So, this totally depends on personal requirements and customisation in Umrah booking.
One thing to remember is that if you are looking for an affordable cost during a peak Umrah month, it will never be possible. Peak season Umrah prices are significantly higher than off-peak. So here we will write those months which are considered off-peak or somehow in it.
June and July – The Summer Months
June and July are the hottest months in Saudi Arabia. In Makkah, daytime temperature can reach more than 45°C during June. While in July, the temperature can reach up to 48°C. It must have been hot not only in Makkah but also in Madinah at this time. Therefore, for many travellers, it’s very difficult to perform Umrah during the summer period. That’s why extreme summer time is mostly referred to as the off-peak season for lesser pilgrimage.
June and July are not the international tourism season because tourists like to travel in cooler places in summer. So, you will find cheap rates of flights and travel packages towards Middle East. If you book 1-2 months early, you can get cheap tickets and even the entire Umrah package. A standard package with a duration of seven nights can cost £800-900 per person.
Now, in 2026, June will face the start of the new Umrah season because the Hajj period will be completed at the end of May. This means June and July will be the starting months in 2026 for the new season of minor pilgrimage. Hence, if you plan to travel in the summer, then open the night schedule to conduct rituals. Nights are more comfortable than days.
January and February – The Winter Months for Umrah
January and February are the colder months in Saudi Arabia. Still, it doesn’t get as cold here as it does in Europe, but the temperatures are relatively comfortable and lower than in summer. The best thing about January and February is the weather conditions. Makkah faces pleasant weather during this cooler time. Daytime temperature lies between 28°C and 30°C during January. On the other hand, throughout February, the temperature typically falls between 30°C and 32°C.
January and February come after the December holidays, and winter vacations have already ended. So, hotels in Makkah and Madinah reduce their rates by 20-30% to increase their occupancy. Therefore, January and February are more affordable than December. Keep in mind that the start of January can be cheap, but after the middle of the month, packages may be costly.
February is sometimes called the shoulder season of Umrah. Travellers usually get mid-season pricing in this month. In 2026, Ramadan will start after the mid of the February. So, you can expect the higher rates of packages because Ramadan Umrah typically costs more. Similarly, Ramadan will end around March 19, 2026, last Ashra will be costly during March.
April – The Spring Transition
April is one of the most popular, affordable, and seasonal months of Umrah. During April, the weather conditions in Makkah are not very hot. It’s generally counted as a spring month in Makkah with an average temperature between 34°C and 38°C. This is the time when summer begins in Saudi Arabia. In 2026, April will fall in Shawwal (the Islamic month). Tourists must enter Saudi Arabia by April 2, 2026 and leave before April 18. This is due to the Hajj season, which will occur at the end of May.
Sometimes Easter (cycle between March and April) also falls in April. This year (2026) Easter will be celebrated on April 5. If you are a Muslim living in any European country, such as the United Kingdom, you will get Easter holidays. So, you can spend your holidays on a memorable Umrah trip. If we talk about the affordability of April, you can expect the cost of a package between £1050 and £1250 for a 10 or 14-night package per person. It all depends on your budget and personal circumstances. Due to any event in April, such as Easter, the costs of packages can be higher than standard prices.
September and October – Best Months for Umrah
September and October are often considered affordable and the best months for the Umrah journey. These are the months when there is no rush of holidays (except in the UK). In September, schools reopen around the world, especially in the UK, Europe, and the USA. Families cannot travel during this time, which reduces demand by 60-70%.
Let’s suppose you are travelling for Umrah from the UK, you can expect the standard September Umrah package’s cost between £850 and £1100 per person. Actual cost depends on the type of services you will take. Comparatively, if you take the same package during December or Ramadan, the cost easily goes up to £2000 or £2500.
The average daytime temperature of Makkah during September lies between 40°C and 41°C. Conversely, in October, daytime temperature ranges from 37°C to 38°C. Many people are afraid of this heat, so due to low demand, prices may become cheaper. However, at night, the temperature reduces, and it feels comfortable, so you can perform Umrah at night.
So, travel for Umrah according to your budget in any of the affordable months. Just start your planning at least three to four months before your departure so that you can get the most reasonable deals. The mentioned months are somewhat pocket-friendly, in which you can get Umrah packages up to 50% cheaper. You can comfortably complete a sacred and memorable journey at a low cost.
